David Mears is an attorney with the law firm of Tarrant, Gillies and Shems, LLP in Montpelier, Vermont where he represents clients in the areas of environmental, energy, and land use law and policy at the local, state and federal levels. Prior to joining the firm, Mears served as the Executive Director of Audubon Vermont and a Vice President of the National Audubon Society. Mears has also served as the Associate Dean of Environmental Programs at Vermont Law School. In addition to serving as a teacher and administrator at Vermont Law School, Mears has held several positions in state and federal government including serving as Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation from 2011 to 2015. He has also served in Texas state government, the U.S. Department of Justice-Environment and Natural Resources Division, and the Washington Office of the Attorney General-Ecology Division. David currently serves on the Northfield Conservation Commission, and on the boards of two Vermont non-profit organizations: the Vermont Center for Ecostudies; and the Energy Action Network.
